Originally created for a Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette annual luncheon, 37 Hours is an animated short film about the lengths patients are having to go through to receive reproductive services and sexual healthcare.

The whole team on this worked together to come up with the visual ideas to match the clinician’s voiceover. Those ideas were then brought to life by the talented Miró Merrill (I also contributed a couple scenes), whose illustrations served as the foundations of the animation. Since this story was a recollection from the clinician, we decided on an abstract, blurry visual style as a nod to the qualities of memory. The film ultimately culminates in a completely abstract sequence of texture and color as the clinician expresses her dismay about the entire situation. We felt that no concrete visual could accurately depict the emotions felt by all involved.
